Energy Storage and Transport Applications
Renewable energy solutions are often criticised for their ability to only provide power when the sun shines or the wind blows. Being able to store the energy and provide it on demand has long been seen as the holy grail of the renewable energy industry.
A typical application of Big Dish technology without energy storage is a solar dish field that generates super-heated steam to power a standard Rankine cycle thermal power block.
The very high temperatures generated by the Big Dish system, however, means that a variety of applications for the storage and transport of energy are potentially available including both thermal and thermochemical energy storage.
Advanced applications, including energy storage for dispatchable power generation, and production of transport fuels, are under active development by Wizard Power. For more information see the following pages:
